What does it take to go green?

We constantly talk about our eco-friendly products and helping cities go green because that really is our mission (you can learn more at www.greenmachines.com ), but let’s not forget that each and every one of us can contribute to building a more sustainable future individually. The question we need to ask ourselves is “what does it take to go green?” Read below to find a few examples of what everyone can do to preserve the environment and help our planet. Sometimes, even a small change can make a big difference and this is why:

  • Switch off the lights. It may sound overly simple and even funny, but one of the easiest ways to reduce energy consumption is to switch off the lights in your home when you leave a room or you just don’t really need them. And you’re helping already!
  • Unplug unused chargers and appliances. We know it’s much easier if your phone charger is plugged in all the time, but remember even small changes make a difference.
  • Recycle! Make sure you recycle as much as you can.
  • Plant a tree, some flowers or fruits, and veggies. It will make a big difference, plus if you have your own garden you will always know where your food comes from and it will taste so much better because of that!
  • Stop using disposable plastic bags. Get some reusable bags or make your own because let’s not forget that even biodegradable plastic bags can survive many years in soil and sea.
  • Go digital. The more you do online, the less you need paper. Send emails, don’t print anything if you don’t need to and pay your bills online.
  • Reuse before you recycle. Think whether you can you reuse items before you recycle them.
  • Cut unnecessary travel and use public transport. Don’t drive to that meeting if it can be summed up in an email, carpool, take the bus, walk or ride a bike for running errands close to your home.

This is not all it takes to go green as there are many things that you can do as an individual to reduce your own negative impact and still make a big difference, but you can use these examples as a great starting point. If we all work together towards achieving this common goal by taking small, simple steps, the planet will become a better place for everyone everywhere. Just ask yourself, does it really take that much to go green?
